Art enhances architecture

Art and architecture are both forms of self-expression that deal with aesthetical beauty and imaginative representation. Architecture can be called a fusion of art and engineering where a given space is creatively transformed concerning visual as well as functional balance. Concepts of drawing, visualizing are significantly essential to design architectural marvels. In history, there are striking examples where artisans follow the layout of the artists for erecting these grandeurs such as monuments and temples. Even today art is greatly integrated into the architecture to create new interactive and innovative spaces in malls, complexes, and other public places.

Architecture is not only a built structure but also a physical environment that exists as a part of human culture and civilization. It is a creative process that has a profound impact on its occupants. Everything from the layout of the space to the material finishes can contribute towards occupant health, mood, and productivity. It’s been shown that people who work in well-designed spaces take less sick leave, are more focused, and generally contribute more to their company. Sterile, concrete landscapes and unimaginative buildings can cause higher levels of stress. Designing buildings, as well as cities, to combat this, whether it be beautiful, awe-inspiring architecture, or simply a mindful connection to nature, helps humans to feel more relaxed, happy, and fruitfully engaged. Designing for the function is certainly crucial. Learning art helps to tap into that emotion which speaks to the sense of experiencing that space. Art is required to be amalgamated with science to create a successful project by implementing all the knowledge and research of space and feelings.

The artist shapes and objects to visually express a complex set of ideas, and the viewers receive that expression. Architects create livable or usable spaces, but their architectural structures are also significant beyond their functionality. Both are simultaneously expressive and communicative. They have a deep connection and are created with the same visual elements and same engagement of the senses. Formal qualities add to artwork because they are aesthetically satisfying. Likewise, size, scale, and value are formal elements of art that enhance the meaning of a building.

Architecture presents a much more deliberate art where the function is given additional thought. Throughout history, architecture has stood as a representation of society, reflecting the values, successes, and eventual downfall of civilizations over time. From the monumental structures to the residences and buildings that make up the fabric of a city, we can learn a lot about who the people were who inhabited them long before our time. This has been possible only with the knowledge of visual art. Encouraging students to take up sketching, painting, and sculpting classes shall help them acquire knowledge of drawing, visualization, harmony, balance, aesthetics, and emotion. It will develop their spatial relationships, increase their ideas of perspective and work efficiently with new concepts.
