How Art Improves Imagination

To be able to imagine pervades our existence.  It influences everything we do, think about and create. It leads to elaborate theories, dreams and inventions in any profession from the realms of academia to engineering and the arts. Giving young children opportunities to use their imagination helps with many aspects of development, from social skills to motor functions and art classes are the best way to do it.

While practicing art, the first step we teach kids is to imagine. It is very essential to visualize the shapes we draw, the lines we create or the paints we put on the canvas. Children are taught to develop this inner eye which is an extremely powerful brain booster. Sometimes our brains are not able to solve problems and give up in difficult situations. But using the power to imagine can create scenarios that solve problems in the most effective way. Using your imagination makes more neurons in your brain and reduces the likelihood of developing memory problems that lead to dementia. The significance of imagination has become more apparent than ever before in the 21st century. Due to the fast-paced development in technology, globalization, and the increasing complexity of our world, the capability to envision novel possibilities and think creatively is essential for living a fruitful life. Engaging in visual art classes help students to develop this power to imagine. It is like a skill. Some individuals are much better at imagining than others. However it is something which can be improved with practice. Drawing, sketching, painting, clay modeling and other creative activities help young minds to exercise different parts of the brain. This includes areas responsible for vision, emotion, and senses. It also used areas that control reasoning, speech, nerve impulses, and more. The brain uses all of these functions to make imagination happen. Art not only sharpens our skills to use the pencil and paints but it develops our vision-the inner eye which is the eye of the mind. Sometimes it is very important to look at the world through this inner eye to create a mental image of something that is not present for your senses to detect, or even something that isn't out there in reality somewhere.

Let us take a moment to process Einstein's quotation, “Imagination is the preview of life's coming attractions.” It's a powerful statement which implies what we think about could become reality. Hence imagination can lead us to success and visual art is the best way to improve it because observing and creating artworks inspire creative and innovative thinking.
