Role of visual art in the education of children

The engagement of children in art and craft activities fosters cognitive growth, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and memory skills. It also initiates critical thinking and helps them understand other subjects better for attaining excellence in academic achievements.

The development of fine psychomotor skills is enhanced through small activities such as holding a paintbrush, using a pair of scissors or modeling clay. These skills improve their problem-solving abilities in mathematical or scientific calculations.
Visual art helps to teach learners about color theories, perspectives, alignments, symmetry, and balance. All these are significantly essential in preparing visual or digital presentations for academic works. There are various types of compositional elements taught while studying art that help them organize their creative activities in other fields of education like composing paragraphs while writing, creating collages for social science studies, photographic demonstrations, etc.

Creativity is important to inculcate values within children. And nothing but art can teach a kid to be creative and critical in his/her ways of thinking. Imaginative ideas and critical thinking enable children to see new possibilities in new things which they apply in other areas of education as well.

Activities like drawing, sculpting, painting initiate interaction among students and the instructors where they share their subjective ideas and emotions. Learning new techniques boost up their confidence and a confident child can happily accept other challenges while studying other subjects.

Visual skills improve the ways of seeing. Children have a strong ability to remember and reflect, and learning art sharpens this ability. They can retain all that they learn which increases their concentration and memory skills.
We know that “Practice makes a man perfect”. Practicing is the key to not only coming close to perfection but also helping us attain expertise in our respective areas. Kids who continuously practice art grow up to be more disciplined and focused. Disciplined children organize their time better, learn how to complete tasks before the deadline, and take responsibility when assigned certain work in school or related places.

The education of children is important for their academic and overall development as human beings and art is the key to strengthening their capacity to achieve these developments. Art classes allow them to learn art in all forms and be self-learners, constantly challenging themselves, and becoming more focused on achieving their goals.
